Well, it has been an exciting couple of weeks in the woods for sure. We have had the opportunity to see bucks that we haven't seen before and there's a good chance that we won't see them again. I haven't had the best of luck with a bow. I have seen plenty of bucks and the deer in general are moving like crazy. I just couldn't get one in range. Of course, if I could hunt from inlaws living room, it would be a different story... The does are always in range down there but over the past week the boys have started coming around.
The rut this year has been very strange. From what I've seen, the bucks have been running for pretty much all of November. Hopefully we can get some deer down in the near future. Stay tuned...

MD Rut
Well, it's on. We were out yesterday in the woods all day and we saw tons of bucks. 3 or 4 really nice ones. As awesome as it is to sit there and watch deer you haven't seen all year and probably won't see again run everywhere, it can be hard to get a shot. After all was said and done, I wasn't able to take anything yesterday. The bucks were running the does pretty hard. Even though no shot was taken yesterday, it's a great time to be in the woods. Here's a picture that I got off of my trail camera. Yeah, it's rut time...

Maryland Rut Action
I was able to get out in the woods on Friday evening and Saturday. Friday I saw a 4 pointer a 3:30, and some does the rest of the evening. Saturday I saw a nice buck and a doe following about 5 yards behind him. My grunts drew 0 interest from the buck. The deer are starting to move but it isn't in yet for sure.
I'm thinking this week it should pick up a little and be in full swing by Saturday. I guess we'll see.
Good luck!!!

Happy Rut Season
Or as is known in most of the country, Halloween. Those bucks are going to start feeling a little funny soon and they're only going to have one thing on their mind. Hopefully, you'll be sitting in a stand when they come pass with something just a bit different on yours...
Until next time, Get Outdoors!

Speckled Trout and Red
Got to go out for some early morning fishing in Louisiana over Labor Day Weekend. Hit the water at 5:00 in the morning and pushed on in the dark. Caught our first fish before the sun even came up. Within an hour we had over 20 Speckled Trout and Reds in the cooler and had released twice as many. I won't give out our location because it has been a honey hole and we want to keep it that way.

Crooked Antler Sportsmans Club. Velvet Edition.
Well, archery season came in last week and it didn't take long for the Maryland Chapter to fill their first Buck tag. It's feeling a lot like fall in the mornings and the deer are moving a little better than expected. All three of us saw bucks and the MD VP of CASC was lucky enough to put one on the ground. The management strategies that we have been going by for the past couple years, even though they are frustrating sometimes seem to be working. This was a young deer and his rack was very impressive. The harvest makes him 1 for 1 with his new Bowtech. It's a long season but with the harvest of his first ever velvet buck, things are looking up in MD.
So there ya have it, we are off and running in the Free State.

Switching Gears...
For the last couple of months it has been fishing time. However, the weather is getting cooler and the attention is slowly switching to being in the woods. I have been seeing deer from the house a lot lately and this last week when I was grilling, I had a close encounter. I saw a buck behind the house in the woods. Instead of staying back and running, he decided to walk towards me. I'm not saying he would have hurt me, however the horns made it a little too close for comfort. I took the last picture of him from the kitchen, about 10 yards from the backdoor...
September can't come fast enough...
The Lease Manager and I went down to our hunting land and pulled the card from my trail cam. Up for a week, 11 pictures. Does and fawns mostly but I did see one buck. We will just have to wait and see...

Maryland Chapter Lake Exploring
Well, the Maryland President and Senior Lease Manager/Guide and Master Canoe Controller joined forces this morning for a canoe trip around the lake. I have been itching to get out on the water instead of fishing from the shore. The bite was slow today but we were able to see more of the lake and land a few fish. Here's some of the pictures...
And then it happened. I had just told Dad that it was getting shallow quick and we should turn around. He insisted that there should be fish in the shallows and he was right. I could tell that I had a bite. I set the hook and I was very surprised at what was on the other end. My biggest Maryland Bass to date. As I ran him back the boat in hopes of Dad lipping it for me, it jumped and came down right in the boat. We couldn't believe it!
All in all, it was a great day on the water!

Evening Bass
I had a few minutes this evening where I was able to run down to the lake. It's getting pretty grown up but I was able to kick some weeds down in order to snag this guy...

Bobbers Under the Bridge
C.A.S.C. President was able to get out with his son Garrett for some bobber fishing using night crawlers. The Texas heat was over 95degrees, but shelter was found under a bridge and a fish was caught with every cast.
